I'm training for my second half marathon...yikes! The race is March 29th. I'm following the same training schedule that I used last year and today I had to run 5 miles. It was SO cold this morning and it was a hard run. During the week, I run on a treadmill in our gym at work. Running on a treadmill is boring but it's (fairly) easy for me because I set the incline to 0.0. On the weekends I run outside where unfortunately, the incline is never set to 0.0. Not to mention, this is Atlanta and traffic is a nightmare. I almost got hit by some guy who was in such a hurry to order his sausage mcgriddle that he almost ran over me! Lucky for him, my running buddy wouldn't allow for me to stop and give him a piece of my mind.
And this cutie pa-tootie is my running buddy, Georgia. She's actually my best friend Kate's dog, but I claim her (most days) as my own. She's a 2 and a half year old boxer and she has NO idea that she's not human. "Spoiled" just isn't the word for her...she is a mess!February will be three years since I've lived in Atlanta. I can't believe it. Some days it seems like I just got here and others feel like I've been here for ten. When I first moved here, I knew it was important to get plugged into a church and meet some new people but no one could have prepared me for how difficult that would be. I visited several churches and finally found one that reminds me a lot of my church in Mississippi. It was difficult to get plugged in though because they didn't have Sunday School - you just came and listened to the sermon and left. I sat on one of the back rows and was one of the first ones out the door when it was over. Over time it became more difficult for me to go at all. I decided 2009 would be different. Last Sunday during the announcements they said that tonight would be a small group "kick off". This was my chance to get plugged in...and I wasn't going to miss it. I was terrified to go by myself. Everything in the minutes leading up to my arrival made me question if this was REALLY what I needed/wanted to do. I was delayed actually getting inside by 20 minutes due to parking issues (gotta love ATL) but finally made it. It was awkward and somewhat intimidating to "mingle" which is what we were told to do. I heard someone say, "I feel like I'm going through rush" and I totally agreed. You just want to stand up in a chair and scream, "pick me - please, pick me". I finally found a group of 6 girls that are close to my age and we seemed to "mingle" well. Our first meeting is Wednesday night at 7. I'm looking forward to it and now that rush is over, I think it's going to be a great group.
